The park covers an area of 136 km and is situated in the centre of a triangle formed by Gondar, Lalibela and Aksum — three major tourist attractions that are part of the ‘Historical Northern Route.
Accommodation within the Simien Mountain National Park is in designated camp sites managed by the park authorities. The campsites are basic and facilities at the camp include sheltered cooking areas and shared bathroom and toilet facilities. Tents are the dome tents and can be single or double.

Depart with your guide and spend the day trekking in the park.
See unique wildlife and enjoy breath-taking views. The National park has been listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site and some of the animal species found in the park are endangered, like the Walia ibex which is endemic to the Simien Mountains, the Simien fox and the Gelada baboon which are endemic to Ethiopia. More than 180 bird species are found in the Simien Mountains and six of these species are endemic to Simien.
Today go through the escarpment and trek to Bawhit Pass (4200m). The pass is an hour’s hike up above Chenek Camp towards Bawhit Mountain. This is one of your best chances on the entire trek to see the elusive Ethiopian Wolf. More common in this area are large groups of the Walia Ibex and Gelada baboons feeding together. The largest male Ibex will likely be perched on a rocky outlook, watching over both the Walia and Geladas.
The park has varied fauna, unique flora and three different vegetation belts can he distinguished.
The afro-alpine steppe belt is found above 3700m above sea level and this grassland is known for its giant Lobelia which can measure up to 10 m in height. The plant grows for as long as twenty years before flowering for the first time and then dying. The Ericaceous belt is situated between 3000 and 3700m above sea level and there are various Erica bushes and trees that are found in this zone, including the giant Heath. The afro-montane forest belt is the lowest belt inside the Park.
