Later this afternoon, join an optional tour to Cape Sounion to experience a breathtaking sunset at the unique temple of Poseidon, the God of the Seas in ancient times.

The tour starts with a wonderful drive along the Athens Rivera and you’ll enjoy splendid views of the Saronic Gulf while passing through some of Athens’ most beautiful suburbs, including Hellinikon Olympic complex, Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, and Varkiza.

Arriving at the Cape Sounion, you will walk up to the Temple of Poseidon (5th century B.C.) with its magnificent panoramic view of the Aegean Sea (on a clear day you can see at least seven islands). One of its columns has a graffiti left by lord Byron in the early 1800s. Cape Sounion has long played an important part in Greek mythology and history, and the first recorded mention of it occurs in the Odyssey, as the last safe landing before Poseidon scattered the returning Greek navy. As god of the sea, Poseidon was very important for ancient Greeks, and the scale of the Temple at Cape Sounion reflects that.

Admire one of the most amazing sunsets you could ever imagine as when the sun begins to slowly touch the sea it is the perfect moment for a glass of wine, before returning back to your hotel.

There’s a chance for a short walk to village Oia to enjoy the sunset.

The island stands out from all the other islands of the Cyclades, for the strange shape and geological structure due to the catastrophic explosion of a currently inactive volcano. An interesting view at the harbor entrance is that of the steep wall, the ridge is filled with white houses. The coast drops sharply on the west, the east coast is flat and the beaches are sandy and pebbly and ideal for swimming.

Day 8: SANTORINI (B)
Today, enjoy a tour to explore some of the most historical and astonishingly beautiful places of Santorini.

Travel to the North of the island where the historic village of Oia is located. Roam the cobbled marble narrow streets; marvel at the architecture of the captain’s houses; explore the picturesque corners of cosmopolitan Oia and take as many photos as possible.

Continue to Imerovigli village, the most ideal place on the island for photo shooting. Your tour guide will lead you to the heart of the village explaining to you the architecture, the blue dome cathedral and the numerable hotels perched on the caldera cliffs.

Firostefani literally means the crown of Fira is another village to explore. As a “crown” caldera place will definitely make us feel enchanted by the beauty of the deep blue caldera sea lagoon. The famous blue dome church that prevails in many Santorini postcards awaits us to visit it.

Up to Prophet Ilias Mountain regarded to be the core of the island, there is the Prophet Ilias Greek Christian Orthodox monastery dedicated to the ascetic Old Testament figure of Prophet Elijah and the view from the highest point of the island is more than rewarding!
